Sir Augustus Stilton, was a World War I flying ace from the Double Deuce, the same squadron as Woodhouse. The newspaper report of his death said he died in his sleep and implied that foul play was suspected. Lieutenant Stripes set the record straight when he informed Woodhouse and Stinky that he actually died of auto-erotic asphyxiation. During World War I, he was always looking for something "sturdy to loop his Sam Browne over." Woodhouse recalls there being an awful lot of loose doorknobs in their quarters.
Stilton named his airplane Choke n Stroke in honor of auto-erotic asphyxiation. He earned the same nickname from some of his squadron mates, who gave a toast to "Choke n Stroke."
