Foxley served in World War I and was in the Double Deuce squadron with Woodhouse. He was a pilot who was shot down during a particularly depressing period of time, known as Bloody april. They were losing two, sometimes three pilots a week. Captain Reggie Thistleton was playing piano when Foxley went down. Foxley's crash was Reggie's inspiration to increase morale by starting a Tontine.
